Bible Study for Home Church – March 27, 2022

GREETINGS!

We would like to encourage you to take some time to read and look at the following scriptures and study points with your group during your time together.

Though we are intentionally meeting in separate homes, we are one in Christ; looking into His Word together, fellowshipping together, and lifting one another up in prayer. Feel free to incorporate some form of worship time, and even take communion together.

HOUSE CHURCH BIBLE STUDY

Considering the Memorial Service for Cecil Cort that was held on Saturday, it is fitting that we examine the passages of scripture that were read at the service that helps us put our mind on the future we have in Christ.

Read the following passages together, discussing among yourselves the teaching points either as you read the scripture, or following the reading of the scripture. These points are offered to assist in starting conversation amongst yourselves; use them however you choose to.

CONVERSATION STARTER STUDY POINTS

Introduction

Heaven means different things to different people. No matter what slant you may have; scripturally, there are constants that leaven all strands of theological viewpoints.

Three passages used at the Memorial Service were from the Book of Revelation, but it started with the reading of John 14:1-6.

John 14:1-6 – Jesus speaks to His followers

Question: What about this passage brings peace to a troubled heart?

Question: Jesus is emphatic, “You KNOW the place to where I am going,” yet one of his disciples confessed he did not know. How, or what could cause a ‘follower’ of Jesus to NOT know the way to the Father? Have you experienced that doubt? Or, do you know someone who does? What is the solution?

Revelation 1:12-18 – John’s vision of the Throne Room

Question: Who is seated on the throne?

Question: The sight of His awesome Presence caused John to fall down as though dead. Is there any comparisons to this in the Old Testament? Why do you think His Presence would cause such a reaction?

Question: What does He mean when He says, “I hold the keys of death and Hades?”

Revelation 21:3-7 – The new has come!

Question: Explain, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people,” when God is with us here on earth?

Question: According to this passage of scripture, ‘death, crying, and pain’ are part of the ‘Old Order’ of things. Try to express what it will be like under the ‘New Order’ of things?

Revelation 22:1-5 – The River of Life

Question: Do you think the river of life is a literal reference, or a symbolic reference to something else? Is the Tree of Life the tree from Eden?

Question: What scriptural reference can you make use of to try and understand the concept, “The Lord God will give them light?”

PRAYER POINT: Lord, though there is still much to be done here on earth, help me to smile every time I am reminded of the future that awaits us. Let it help carry me through times of mourning, tears, or pain. These are but light and momentary afflictions, not worth comparing to the eternal glory that will be revealed in us.

Help me Lord, to KNOW the way to where Jesus went. Let there be no doubt in my mind that I am His, and He is mine. Jesus, you say that YOU are the way, and the truth, and the life. Let me follow you wholly. Lord, Your word also says that the Spirit of God ‘confirms with my spirit that I am indeed a child of God… that NOTHING shall separate us from Your love. In the name of Jesus, I stand against the enemy who would try to steal away that truth from me.

GOD BLESS your households as we take these last Sundays of each month to learn new ways of worshipping, fellowshipping, and creating opportunities to reach those who either cannot, or will not attend a regular church service.
